Anglo-Welsh Cup Highlights: Leicester Tigers v Cardiff Blues
- 1971
Leicester Tigers ran out 24-12 winners over Cardiff Blues in the Anglo-Welsh Cup at Welford Road. Tries from Jordan Olowofela, Will Evans and Luke Hamilton saw them home in a scrappy affair. The hosts got off to a solid start when Joe Ford kicked them in front from 25m with just a minute gone on the clock. From there the sides sparred each other for a spell without ever really threatening until midway through the period when Tigers broke the game open. Cardiff Blues prop Corey Domachowski was yellow carded and Leicester took immediate advantage with flanker Evans crashing over and Ford adding the conversion for a 10-0 lead. Leicester were on top for the majority of the game they were forced to weather some late pressure, which saw Joe Maksymiw yellow carded on 70 minutes after preventing Jones taking another quick tap but the defence held firm. FT Leicester deserved 24-12 victors.
