From next year, a share of the Six Nations broadcasting could move to pay-TV for the first time. According to the Times' sources, the hybrid option has emerged as the clear favourite as it satisfies the need for more income from Amazon while keeping the competition on free to air.
The report goes on to suggest that the BBC, ITV and Amazon would have an equal split of the games the most attractive games with a match going to each broadcaster.
Sky and BT also threw in bids, according to the report, but their offers were understood to be for exclusive rights.
