The Highlanders take a 17-15 lead over the Hurricanes into halftime. The Highlanders opened the scoring with an early penalty, but the Hurricanes hit back with the games first try to lead 7-3. Both sides were then reduced to 14 players after picking up yellow cards. The Highlanders adapted better with a quick try and a second score around the half hour mark saw them up 17-7. The Hurricanes would however finish the half strongly, with a late try and a penalty with the final play seeing them trail by just two points at the break.
