The Crusaders host their Southern rivals the Highlanders in the quarter-finals of Super Rugby. The Crusaders won 11 of their 16 matches to top the NZ Conference and the overall standings, while the Highlanders recorded six victories to finish fourth in the NZ Conference and sneak in as the eighth ranked side overall. The sides only met once this season, with the first encounter declared a draw after the tragic shooting in Christchurch.
