Coetzer received a late call-up to the Junior Springbok World Rugby U20 Championship squad as a replacement for the injured Damian Willemse.
He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and earned a spot in the starting lineup for the bronze playoff against New Zealand.
In May 2019, he was named in the Junior Boks squad for the World Rugby U20s Championship.
