Rougerie was born in Beaumont, Puy-de-Dôme. His father, Jacques Rougerie, was also a French international, playing at loosehead prop while his mother was an international at basketball.
He joined Clermont in 2001 and has been at the club ever since. Rougerie made his debut for France against the Springboks in the same year.
In 2007, he won the European Challenge Cup with Clermont against Bath at the Twickenham Stoop. In 2010, Rougerie captained his boyhood team to the French Championship against Perpignan.
During an 11 year spell with the France side, Rougerie won 76 caps, scoring 115 points in the process. Playing a part in three Rugby World Cup campaigns.
Comfortable on the wing or at centre, Rougerie has represented Clermont on over 350 occasions and remains a key figure during the 2016/17 campaign.
In June 2017, Rougerie extended his contract with the European Champions finalists to keep him at the club for another year.
The winger/centre has made over 354 appearances for Clermont, scoring more than 638 points.
He has also represented France on 76 occasions.
At the end of the 2017/18 season Rougerie brought down the curtain on stellar career having only represented one club his whole career and will go down as one of the greatest French test players in history.
