Born in South Africa, Lyon had a promising youth career featuring for the Free State Cheetahs and Golden Lions between 2002 - 2004, before going on to join the Border Bulldogs.
Lyon moved to England after a short stint in France, linking up with Bedford Blues where he racked up 11 appearances in a short year at the club, he went onto join Blackheath in 2008 where he made 12 caps.
In 2009, he signed for Richmond and has become a club stalwart making over 120 appearances for the club.
He goes into 8th season with the club as he signs on for the 2017/18 season.
