Ali Price, an exceptional scrum-half, has established himself as a key player for both Glasgow Warriors and the Scottish national team. He made his debut for Glasgow Warriors in November 2014 in a match against Scarlets. Price's consistent and high-class performances earned him a well-deserved selection for the 2021 British and Irish Lions tour, where he was named as one of the three scrum-halves in the 37-man touring party by Head Coach Warren Gatland.
His exceptional performances on the field have been recognized with individual accolades. Price was named the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season for the 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons. These awards came after stellar campaigns where he became a regular for both Glasgow Warriors and the Scottish national team. In the 2016/17 season, Price played a crucial role in helping the Warriors reach their first European Champions Cup quarter-final. He has also showcased his ability to perform on big occasions, including a memorable scrum-half try against Ulster in the 2019 Guinness PRO14 semi-final and an important score against Edinburgh at Scotstoun in December 2019.
In terms of international representation, Price qualifies for Scotland through his mother and represented Scotland at the U20 level before making his international debut against Georgia in November 2016. He quickly rose through the ranks and earned four more caps in the 2017 Six Nations Championship. Price's impressive rise continued, and he was voted as Glasgow's Most Improved Player in 2017. He was awarded Glasgow's Player of the Season in May 2017 and was subsequently named in the Scotland squad for their three-Test summer tour. He scored his first international try against Italy in Singapore later that year. Despite a foot injury curtailing his Rugby World Cup experience in 2019, Price continued to excel both internationally and domestically.
Price has been a consistent presence in the Scotland team, featuring in each of Scotland's Six Nations campaigns in 2020 and 2021. He played a vital role in Scotland's historic wins at Twickenham and in Paris during the latter campaign, achieving a feat not seen since 1926. His outstanding performances and contributions to the team led to his inclusion in the British and Irish Lions squad for the 2021 tour to South Africa. Price featured in all three test matches against the Springboks.
In December 2021, Price reached a milestone by making his 100th appearance for Glasgow Warriors in a match against La Rochelle. He signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Scotstoun. With 46 caps for Scotland and three appearances for the Lions, Price continues to be a pivotal figure in both club and international rugby, showcasing his skill, consistency, and leadership as a scrum-half.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Price has been named in the squad for Scotland.
