Tom Johnson

16th Jul 1982 1.88m/103kg Openside Flanker

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Johnson came through the academy system at Reading before joining Coventry, making him only the second player to turn professional from the Reading Club.

Johnson was thoroughly impressive for Coventry, one occasion scoring an 80 metre try, and it came as no surprise when the Exeter Chiefs opted to sign the Flanker. Johnson has played every single fixture in both of the Chief’s Premiership campaigns and helped guide the Devon club to a fifth place finish in the 2011-2012 season.

Johnson, who has also represented the England Saxons, became the first Exeter player to represent England in 47 years, after he made his England bow during England’s 2012 summer tour of South Africa.

Since his debut, Johnson has earned four England caps and scored a try against Fiji in November 2012.

In May 2017, Johnson announced his retirement following Exeter Chiefs successful season that saw them win the English Premierships title by beating Wasps in extra time. Johnson spent 10 years at the club and made 8 appearances for England.
