One of a group of academy recruits from the Norfolk region, Thom Smith grew up playing rugby in Norwich before coming under the guidance of coach Tim Malone in the Leicester Tigers system.
A back-rower, Thom played a full part in the Tigers Under-18s League title win in 2017/18 and the unbeaten run throughout that campaign before playing in the ‘A’ League.
He stepped up to the Development squad in 2018/19, gaining more experience in the second-string Premiership shield and made a senior debut in the Premiership Cup tie away to Saracens in October 2018.
The second half of the 2019/20 season brought him more senior experience and the captaincy of Tigers in the Premiership as well as experience of a European Challenge Cup semi-final in Toulon.
Smith joined Doncaster Knight ahead of the 2021/22 season on loan before the move was made permanent in December 2021.
