Rugby runs in Plumtree's veins with his father, John, having coached the Sharks in 2008 before returning to the UK where he was an assistant to Joe Schmidt for Ireland in 2013.
Plumtree attended Wellington College and played for the Wellington Under 19 team at the 2018 Jock Hobbs Memorial Under 19 tournament, captaining his side in one match.
The lock was selected for the New Zealand team for the 2019 IRB Rugby World Cup while also making his debut for Wellington in the Mitre 10 Cup.
A mobile lock, Plumtree has impressive speed for a second-rower with attention to detail and strong game sense.
He made his debut for the Blues against the Crusaders in Christchurch, coming off the bench in one of the toughest sporting venues in the world.
In July 2023, he was unveiled as Scarlet's new signing ahead of the 2023/24 season.
His work ethic and team first mentality saw him being called into Wales senior squad ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
