A year at Munster in Ireland followed before joining Sale in 2011 where he has taken on the captaincy role on several occasions.
Former New Zealand centre Sam Tuitupou will leave the Premiership outfit to join National League One side Coventry, it has been announced.
Tuitupou, 35, has spent six years at the Sharks and made 110 appearances since moving from Worcester and is a major signing for Coventry.
