From a rugby playing family, Sam Edwards joined the Leicester Tigers academy from the club’s Developing Player Programme bases at Mount St Mary’s and Newark.
DPP coaches Diccon Edwards and Steve Grainger played a prominent role in his development in junior rugby, while he also played club level at Selby and in schools rugby with Queen Ethelburga’s College before moving to Brooksby Melton College as he entered the Tigers academy.
Sam was among four Tigers academy players selected for the England Under-18 development tour to South Africa in the August 2019 and he was a tryscorer in the Academies Under-18 League Final in 2019/20 when Tigers drew with London Irish to keep one hand on the title for a third successive year.
