Ruaridh McConnochie, born on October 23, 1991, is an English rugby union player who has made a significant impact both in sevens and XVs rugby. He rose to prominence as a member of the silver medal-winning team in rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Following his success in sevens, McConnochie transitioned to XVs rugby and earned his full international debut for England against Italy in September 2019. Despite not being selected to play again for England, he has become eligible to represent Scotland through his Scottish parents.
During his youth, McConnochie attended Cranbrook School in Kent, where he played for the school's 1st XV rugby union team. He continued his rugby journey at the University of Gloucestershire and played for Nuneaton RFC from 2012 to 2014 before joining Hartpury College.
McConnochie's introduction to the professional XVs game came after his success in sevens. He made his debut for England Sevens at the 2015 Dubai Sevens tournament and also represented Great Britain at the World University Sevens Championship, where they emerged victorious.
His standout performances led to a place in the Great Britain rugby sevens team for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, where he won a silver medal. He was also a regular try-scorer in the World Rugby Sevens Series and played a crucial role in England's gold medal triumph in Cape Town in December 2016.
In January 2018, McConnochie made the move to Bath Rugby, embarking on his professional XVs career. His exceptional footwork and finishing ability have made him an exciting player to watch and a valuable asset to the team. He was named one of the uncapped players in England's preliminary World Cup training squad, eventually earning his first cap against Italy ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Off the field, McConnochie is known for his incredible contributions to the community and is highly regarded as an enthusiastic member of the Bath Rugby squad.
