Ross Ford

23rd Apr 1984 1.86m/113kg Hooker

Initially a backrow at his academy club Kelso RFC, Ford has switched to a hooker at his first professional club The Border Reivers.

Formerly a Scotland U-16 captain, Ford made his Reivers debut in 2004. Ford spent three years with the Reivers, before their disbandment in 2007, and subsequently joined Glasgow Warriors. However, Ford’s move to the Warriors fell through and he signed for Edinburgh.

Ford has been an ever present for Edinburgh since his move to the capital club, and was an integral part of their Heineken Cup Semi Final reaching team of 2012.

Before his Scotland senior debut, in a 2004 game against Australia, Ford has represented Scotland at 7’s, U-16’s U-18, U-19 and U-21 levels. Ford was a late replacement for the injured Jerry Flannerey in the 2009 Lions Tour of South Africa, playing in the Third Test. To date, Ford has won 94 Scotland Caps, including two World Cups, 2007 and 201. He has been named in the Scottish squad for the Six Nations Championship in 2016.

The 32-year-old Edinburgh front-rower celebrated his 100th Dark Blues appearance in the November International against Australia at Murrayfield. Ford's tally is all the more remarkable given the hazardous scraps his position at the heart of the pack forces him to confront. Having managed to avoid serious injury in the 12 years that have passed since his debut. And at just 32, Ford has 179 Guinness PRO12 appearances to his name, one Test cap for the British & Irish Lions.

Having a vast amount of experience,50 caps, in Six Nations Ford was added to the 2017 Six Nations squad.

In May 2017, Ford was named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming three-Test summer tour. Having won 107 caps to date.

Ford is poised to become Scotland's record cap holder after being named in the side to face Fiji.

The Edinburgh hooker won his 110th cap in Suva on Saturday in the final match of the Scots' summer tour.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, Ford has had 75 European Cups appearances scoring 5 tries and 25 points.

In April 2019, Ford was among seven departing Edinburgh Rugby, having played 197 times for the Pro14 outfit.
