Niko Matawalu joined Glasgow Warriors in season 2012/13, fresh from impressing for Fiji against Scotland in June 2012.

The scrum-half had previously won widespread praise for his displays in the HSBC Sevens World Series, a leg of which is now staged at the Warriors' Scotstoun home in the guise of the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s. He has now firmly established himself as a fans favourite at Scotstoun with his displays of pace, creativity and guile.

In season 2012/13 he broke a PRO12 record by being the first player to pick up four Man of the Match awards in a row for a series of electrifying performances in early 2013.

Representing Fiji during the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Niko took his total international caps to 28, and was called into the squad for the 2016 Autumn Internationals.

Having made 13 appearances for Bath Rugby, the scrum-half parted ways with the Club and signed a deal with Exeter Chiefs, heading to Sandy Park at the conclusion of the autumn internationals.

In August 2017, Matawalu re-signed with Glasgow Warriors for the 2017-18 PRO14 season. The 28-year-old, who has 32 Fiji caps, left Glasgow in 2015, after helping the club secure its first Pro12 title.

He made over 70 appearances for the club, scoring 26 tries, and was voted player of the season in his final year.

Matawalu left Glasgow for a lucrative contract with English heavyweights Bath, but struggled for fitness after his move, making only 10 league appearances before joining the Chiefs. in November last year.

The playmaker, who can also be deployed on the wing, started three of his country's four 2015 Rugby World Cup fixtures, and was in the Fiji squad for their trio of June internationals, although he did not feature in the win over Scotland.

As of the 2018/2019 Champions Cup, Matawalu has had 25 European Cup appearances scoring 7 tries and 30 points.
