Arguably the premier tighthead prop in the world, Castrogiovanni is the pillar of strength that holds both the Azzurri and Leicester Tigers scrums together. The well established and renowned Argentine-born prop started from humble beginnings playing with the Argentine side Atletico Estudiantes before moving to Italian side Calvisano. After 5 years the English side Leicester Tigers took an interest and signed him. Affectionately known as 'Castro', the smiling front ranker is popular among everyone accept those he scrums against. Castrogiovanni made his international debut with Italy in 2002 against New Zealand and helped the Tigers to premiership titles in 2007, 2009, and 2010. Since making his debut for Italy, Castrogiovanni has been an ever present in the team, racking up over 100 caps for his adopted country. 2015 will see him represent Italy in a 4th World Cup, having been selected in Vern Cotter's 31-man squad. In December 2016, Castrogiovanni announced his retirement from the game, bringing an end to a fantastic 15 year career.
