Standing at six foot six inches lock Donnacha O’Callaghan has been a huge part of Munster’s success story since his debut in 1998. There was much hype surrounding O’Callaghan during his first few seasons at Munster due to the Cork man being part of Ireland’s successful under 19 World Championship side, and he has justified the hype with a fantastic career with both Ireland and Munster.
O’Callaghan made his Irish bow against Wales in 2003. Since then, O’Callaghan has worn the green jersey 88 times, winning four Triple Crowns and a Grand Slam.
He also had the honour of representing The British and Irish Lions in both the 2005 and 2009 tours. O’Callaghan’s Munster career has been similarly successful: winning two Heineken Cups and numerous Domestic Leagues.
He made a move to Sixways in September 2015, joining Worcester Warriors after 17 seasons with Munster Rugby.
In his first season at Sixways, the Irish star played in every single Premiership game and became an all-important component of the side, having made 19 appearances in this campaign.
April 2017 saw him sign a new deal to remain with the Warriors for the 2018 season and beyond. O'Callaghan picked up the Fans' Player of the Season and the Warriors Rugby Supporters Club (WRSC) Player of the Season awards after his 19 appearances this campaign, including seven Premiership games as captain in which his side picked up 17 points to secure their place in the top flight.
After 43 appearances for Worcester Warriors in the Premiership, the lock was named the club's captain ahead of the 2017/18 season.
In October 2017, O’Callaghan has confirmed he will retire from all forms of rugby at the end of the season to spend more time with his family.
O'Callaghan has enjoyed an illustrious career. The 38-year-old is Munster's most capped player with 268 appearances over 17 seasons with the province.
He has won 94 caps for Ireland and four caps for the British and Irish Lions having toured twice with Lions in 2005 to New Zealand and 2009 to South Africa.
In April 2018, O'Callaghan announced his retirement from professional rugby to focus on his family.
