Born and bred in Christchurch, Dominic is the son of former Crusaders' back-rower Angus who played for the 38 games for the Crusaders between 1996 and 1999.
Gardiner's father is still heavily involved with the Crusaders as the side's GM of Rugby.
Dominic follows in the footsteps of his father, joining the Crusaders squad ahead of the 2022 season.
The St Bede’s College old boy played flyhalf and centre during his junior playing days, before converting into a loose forward and thriving as first XV captain.
A talented sportsman, he also played first XI cricket and hockey for St Bede’s and was head boy.
Dom Gardiner comes into his second season at the Crusaders after debuting last year.
