Dan Sheehan signed his first professional contract with Leinster in 2020 and made an immediate impression, scoring two tries on his debut against Zebre in October that year. His performances quickly established him as an important part of the squad, earning him Leinster’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2021–22 season and selection in the URC Elite XV for 2022–23.
He made his Ireland debut against Japan in November 2021 and went on to play a key role in the team’s success in the Six Nations. Sheehan scored a try and was named Player of the Match in Ireland’s 2022 victory over Scotland, helping secure the Triple Crown. He continued to make his mark in 2023, scoring twice and earning another Player of the Match award in the win over England that sealed Ireland’s Six Nations Grand Slam. His rapid rise also saw him nominated for the 2022 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year award.
Sheehan has developed into a key figure for both Leinster and Ireland. He has also taken on leadership responsibilities at international level, captaining Ireland in the absence of regular captain Caelan Doris.
