Originally from Oudtshoorn, the Golden Lions snapped up the loosehead after making the SA Schools academy team in 2007. Immensely talented, Oosthuizen went on to represent South Africa U20 at the 2009 IRB Junior World Championships and made his way through the Lions U19s and U21s.
Success continued with a Currie Cup debut for the Lions in 2011 and got his first Super Rugby cap a year later. The Lions relegation forced a move to the Cheetahs for Super Rugby action in 2013.
In 2014, he made his debut by starting in a 21–20 defeat to the Lions in Bloemfontein.
Oosthuizen moved to the Stormers ahead of the 2017 and has since taken his Super Rugby cap tally to 28 and has scored 1 try ahead of the 2018 Super Rugby season.
