Known as the pocket rocket, Russell rose from relative obscurity to make his Springbok and BlitzBokke debut in 2002 and went on to win 23 test caps for South Africa. Representing the Sharks in Currie Cup and Super Rugby from 2003-2006, Brent then moved to the Stormers and Western Province before spending the 2007/2008 season with Saracens. 2008 saw the utility back signing with Clermont Auvergne, winning the French Top 14 in 2010 and retiring at the Club in 2012.
