Billy Twelvetrees is an English rugby union player who has played as a fly-half and centre for Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby. He was born in Wisborough Green, West Sussex, he is the son of Kevin Twelvetrees, a tree surgeon and is the youngest of four brothers, who were all encouraged by their mother to play rugby. Growing up, Twelvetrees was active in a range of sports, including football and cricket, where he was proficient with the bat playing at Wisborough Green Cricket Club.
Twelvetrees played for several Sussex rugby clubs before joining the Leicester Tigers academy in 2007. He later moved to Bedford Blues before re-signing with the Tigers in 2009. During his time with Leicester, he earned the nickname "36" due to the Irish-accented pronunciation of his surname by club captain Geordan Murphy.
In 2012, Twelvetrees moved to Gloucester Rugby and became a key figure in the squad. He earned a call-up to the England squad for the 2013 Six Nations and made his debut against Scotland at Twickenham. He went on to tour with England to Argentina that summer before being drafted into Warren Gatland’s British & Irish Lions squad in Australia.
Twelvetrees was named Gloucester Rugby’s Club Captain ahead of the 2014-15 season and led the side to a second European Challenge Cup title at the end of that year. In 2021, after making over 270 appearances for the Cherry & Whites over an 11-year period, Twelvetrees announced that he would depart Gloucester at the end of the 2022/23 season to join Ealing Trailfinders.
