Ryan Smith attended St.Patrick’s College Shorncliffe in Australia.
Having trained with the Brumbies for a short time, Smith came into the spotlight after impressing with Brisbane City in the 2019 NRC.
The lock featured for the Reds in their Dalby preseason trial playing against the Waratahs in Queensland, before getting a call-up to the Reds' Super Rugby side in May 2020.
In 2021, he became a regular in the Reds team playing 10 games making 50 tackles and 65 metres carrying with ball in hand.
Following on from his good form in 2021, Smith played 15 games for the Reds in 2022 making over 130 tackles and scoring 3 tries.
