Ruan Stefan Vermaak, born on 1 May 1998 in Roodepoort, South Africa, is a South African rugby union player known for his versatility and athleticism on the field. Vermaak's rugby journey began during his schooling years at Hoërskool Monument, where he dedicated himself to developing his skills and passion for the sport. His hard work paid off, and he soon caught the attention of selectors, earning opportunities to represent his country at various youth levels.

In 2015 and 2016, Vermaak was selected to play for the South Africa Schools 'A' team in the Under-19 International Series, showcasing his abilities on an international stage and gaining valuable experience against top-level competition.

His talent and potential were further recognized when he was chosen to represent the South Africa Under-20 team at the 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. This tournament allowed Vermaak to compete against the best young rugby players from around the world, providing him with valuable experience and contributing to his development as a player.

In February 2019, Vermaak made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions, coming on as a replacement in their victorious match against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires. This marked the beginning of his professional career at the highest level of club rugby in South Africa.
