Ruan Jacobus Combrinck was born on 10 May 1990 in Vryheid, South Africa. He attended Michaelhouse School and later pursued his education at Stellenbosch University.
Combrinck began his rugby journey representing the Sharks at the U18 and U19 levels. In 2009, he made the move to the Western Province U19 team, further honing his skills. His Vodacom Cup debut for Western Province in 2010 marked his progression in the sport, and he joined the Western Province Currie Cup squad in 2011. However, it was in 2012 that Combrinck made a significant step in his career by signing with the Lions, granting him the opportunity to compete in Super Rugby.
Renowned for his adaptability, Combrinck is a player who consistently performs at a high level in various positions on the field. His wealth of experience brings a sense of calmness and composure to his team.
Combrinck's exceptional performances did not go unnoticed, leading to his Springbok debut in 2016 against Ireland. He went on to make three more appearances for the Springboks, showcasing his talent at the international level. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
With 52 Super Rugby caps to his name, Combrinck has made a significant impact throughout his career. In the 2018 Super Rugby season, he aimed to build on his impressive track record, looking to contribute further to his team's success. Currently, he has amassed 123 points in Super Rugby, highlighting his ability to make an impact on the scoreboard.
