Peter Lakai attended St Patrick's College and matriculated in 2020.
Lakai started his union career at Avalon followed by a move to St Patrick’s Silverstream member of the Wellington 2022 Bunnings NPC squad.
He represented New Zealand U20s in 2022, and has been touted as a long-term successor to Ardie Savea
He was named in the Hurricanes squad for the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.
The 19-year-old powerhouse made his debut for the Hurricanes in the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific opener against the Reds
