Patrick Lambie

17th Oct 1990 1.77m/88kg Fly Half

A schoolboy star at Michaelhouse, Lambie came through the ranks as a fullback, but it was at flyhalf that he made his name for the Sharks, guiding them to a comprehensive victory over Western Province and famously handing off Schalk Burger in the Currie Cup Final at just 20-years-old. Lambie represented the Springbok under-20 5 times scoring 75 points.

Lambie has since become a pivotal part of the Sharks team and a fan favourite with Sharks and Springbok supporters. Lambie has become known for his all-round playing, allowing to double up as a fullback when need be. His brilliant kicking accuracy allows him to secure points for his teams week after week.

Lambie has appeared in two Rugby World Cups for the Springboks in 2011 and 2015, he has also reached the milestone of 50 test caps for the Springboks. He was named the captain of The Sharks following the departure of Bismark du Plessis to France in 2016.

Having performed well throughout his career, Lambie has been hit with many injury set backs at critical times in his career. He picked up a neck injury during the 2015 Rugby World Cup that saw him miss most of Super Rugby.

He was still selected into the national team for the June Internationals against Ireland, where he picked up a concussion in the early stages of the match.

Lambie has one again been selected to captain the Sharks ahead of the 2017 Super Rugby competition.

While struggling with multiple injuries and concussions, the Sharks medical staff has advised that Lambie should only return to rugby next season.

In September 2017, Lambie was released from his Sharks and Springboks contracts and will join, on a three-year deal, Racing 92 as he seeks a fresh start.

Lambie's career with Racing started with a bang after he recovered from his injuries as he formed dangerous partnerships with Dan Carter and Maxime Machenaud that helped Racing make the Champions Cup Final as well as the Top 14 playoffs.

Unfortunately, Lambie suffered a season-ending injury in the Champions Cup final that would see him miss the 2018 International season and the start of the 2018/19 Top 14 season.
