Max Wright, a talented centre, emerged from the Yorkshire Carnegie setup and joined Bath Rugby in October 2017. In his first year with the Blue, Black and Whites, he faced a setback due to an ankle injury, but he made his debut just under a year after joining in a thrilling 17-15 victory over Northampton Saints.
He also made his European debut in the same campaign, showcasing his potential on the big stage.
Wright played a crucial role in England Under-20s' triumph in the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2017. He was initially part of the larger training squad and was named as a reserve by head coach Martin Haag.
However, a fortuitous turn of events occurred when fly-half Theo Trophy-Clews suffered an injury against Italy, leading to Wright's recall to the squad. He seized the opportunity and made an impact during England U20s' crucial group stage match against Australia, helping secure their place in the semi-finals and becoming a representative of Yorkshire Carnegie, the only Championship club in the squad.
With numerous appearances in both the B&I Cup and the Championship, Wright demonstrated his agility and promise as a centre. He made a notable contribution, scoring two tries in 12 appearances for Yorkshire Carnegie. His impressive form caught the attention of the England U20s selectors, and he joined the squad that ultimately clinched the title in 2016.
Wright continued to excel and was part of the U20s team that secured the Grand Slam in 2017, playing alongside notable players like Mercer and Josh Bayliss. He also represented his country in Georgia during that summer.
In November 2017, Wright signed with Bath Rugby for the 2017-18 season. His commitment and progress were recognized in January 2020 when he extended his contract for another three years. After accumulating 36 appearances for Bath, Wright embarked on a three-month loan deal with Newcastle Falcons, providing him with an opportunity to gain further experience and contribute to their campaign.
Max Wright's journey showcases his talent, determination, and potential as a centre in the rugby union. With his skills and commitment, he continues to make valuable contributions to the teams he represents.
