Luke Jacobson is a talented rugby player from New Zealand. Born in Te Awamutu and raised in Cambridge, Jacobson had an impressive journey in the sport, showcasing his skills and leadership qualities.
Jacobson's rugby career began to flourish during his time at Cambridge High School, where he captained the First XV. His exceptional performances earned him selection for the New Zealand Schools team in 2014. Notably, his older brothers, Mitch and Kane, had also achieved success in rugby, with Mitch captaining the New Zealand Schools team and Kane representing the team as an openside in 2011.
In 2016, Jacobson represented New Zealand in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. He further showcased his leadership abilities by captaining the Waikato Under 19s in the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19s tournament, leading them to victory in the Graham Mourie Cup and being named the Player of the Tournament.
Jacobson's outstanding skills and leadership qualities were recognized when he was appointed as the captain of the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2017. Under his guidance, the team achieved victory in the final of the U20 Rugby World Cup, demonstrating his dominant performances on the field.
In 2018, Jacobson made his debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in Super Rugby, making a strong impression. His remarkable performances earned him a call-up to the All Blacks squad, and he debuted against Argentina later that year. He was also selected for the All Blacks Rugby World Cup squad in 2019 but unfortunately had to withdraw due to a concussion.
Following his recovery, Jacobson continued to excel in rugby. In 2021, he was once again selected for the All Blacks squad, showcasing his consistency and potential. He made his comeback against Fiji and Tonga, adding to his previous two test appearances.
Beyond his club and international achievements, Jacobson has been a part of the Chiefs development pathways, representing the Chiefs U20s team and the University of Waikato Taua Development team. He has received accolades such as the Chiefs Under 20s Player of the Year award, highlighting his contributions and growth in the sport.
