Levan Maisashvili

Levan Maisashvili is a highly regarded Georgian professional rugby union coach. He currently holds the position of head coach for both the Georgia national team and the Black Lion side, which competes in the Currie Cup.

Maisashvili's coaching career began at LELO Saracens, where he served as the head coach, gaining valuable experience and showcasing his coaching abilities. Following the Rugby World Cup in Japan, Maisashvili transitioned into the role of interim coach for the Georgian national team. Prior to this, he had been working as the team's defense coach, demonstrating his expertise in that aspect of the game.

However, during the 2021 July rugby union tests, Maisashvili contracted COVID-19 and suffered serious illness, resulting in his hospitalization. He spent two months in the hospital, during which he was placed on a ventilator due to the severity of his lung damage caused by the virus. This unfortunate situation has undoubtedly been challenging for Maisashvili and the rugby community, as his health and recovery have been of utmost importance.

Despite the setback caused by his illness, Maisashvili's coaching skills and contributions to Georgian rugby remain highly valued. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the national team's strategies and has been instrumental in their development. His experience and expertise in coaching will continue to be significant as he leads the Georgia national team and the Black Lion side in their future endeavors.
