Trainor was a member of the Blues’ Under 18 squad in 2014 and played in the Waikato Under 19.
The fullback earned his first ITM Cup cap with Waikato in 2015. Trainor was called in by the Mooloos to help take the Ranfurly Shield from the Hawkes Bay Magpies.
The St Peter’s College graduate has shown versatility across the back line, at times playing wing.
Trainor has been named in the Blues Super Rugby squad for the first time ahead of the 2017 season.
He made his Super Rugby debut in the opening round of the competition against the Reds but failed to add to his cap total.
Trainor was a standout performer for a poor Auckland side in the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup and the skilful fullback/wing and an excellent goal-kicker will look to add to his single Super Rugby cap in 2018.
Trainor heads into the 2019 Super Rugby season with 2 caps following an outstanding Mitre 10 Cup season where he helped Auckland to the title.
