Douw Gerbrandt Grobler, born on 6 February 1992, is a South African rugby union player who currently plays as a lock for the Sharks in the Currie Cup and the URC (United Rugby Championship).
Grobler began his rugby journey at Affies High School in Pretoria, where he honed his skills. He represented the Blue Bulls at the 2010 Craven Week, showcasing his talent as a lock.
In 2010, Grobler joined the Bulls, spending a year with the team before making the move to Cape Town. He then represented Western Province and the Stormers. However, in October 2014, he faced a setback when he received a two-year ban for a doping offense.
After serving his ban, Grobler embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing with Racing 92, a top French club in the Top 14, for the 2016/17 season. He gained valuable experience during his time in France.
In July 2017, Grobler made another move, this time joining Munster, an Irish Pro14 side, on a one-year contract. He made his non-competitive debut for Munster in a pre-season friendly against Worcester Warriors in August 2017. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury during the match and underwent surgery, which sidelined him until early 2018. He finally made his competitive debut for Munster in February 2018.
Following his stint with Munster, Grobler ventured to the English Premiership, signing with Gloucester ahead of the 2018/19 season. He made 34 appearances for the club, contributing his skills as a lock.
In July 2020, Grobler made a return to the Top 14, this time joining Stade Francais on a two-year contract for the 2020/21 season, further enriching his rugby career.
Currently, Grobler is an integral part of the Sharks' squad, showcasing his prowess as a lock in the Currie Cup and the United Rugby Championship.
