Charles Faumuina, born on 24 December 1986, is a rugby union player who plays as a prop. He currently represents Toulouse in the Top 14 in France and has previously played for the New Zealand national team.
Faumuina initially played rugby league and only transitioned to rugby union when he was selected for the Papatoetoe High School 1st XV rugby team. He made his first-class rugby debut in 2007 for the New Zealand Colts against Canada and also played for Auckland in the Air New Zealand Cup.
He made his Super Rugby debut for the Blues in 2009 and became a regular starter for the team. Despite his size, Faumuina was praised for his agility and footwork, which set him apart from other props.
His performances caught the attention of the national selectors, and he made his debut for the All Blacks in 2012 as a substitute against Argentina.
Faumuina continued to excel at the international level and played a key role in the All Blacks' successful campaign at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, where they became the first team to retain the title.
In 2017, Faumuina joined Toulouse in the Top 14, one of the top French clubs. He showcased his versatility by playing both tighthead prop and loosehead prop positions. His dynamic footwork and ball skills, uncommon for a forward, made him a valuable asset to the New Zealand squad.
Faumuina has made significant contributions to both the Blues and the All Blacks throughout his career, with notable achievements including winning the Rugby World Cup and representing the All Blacks in 50 Test matches.
He remains an integral part of Toulouse's squad for the 2020 season, utilizing his skills and experience to contribute to the team's success.
Ahead of the World Rugby Cup 2023, Faumuina has been named in the squad for Samoa.
