Cameron Robin Wright, born on 20 April 1994, is a talented South African rugby union player who currently represents the Sharks in both United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup. His primary position is scrum-half.
Wright's journey with the Sharks began when he represented the team at the schoolboy level. He made his debut for the Sharks U19 team during the 2012 Under-19 Provincial Championship, where he started in seven matches. The following year, he featured in twelve games for the U19 team in the Provincial Championship and subsequently progressed to the Sharks U21 side in 2014.
In addition to his provincial commitments, Wright also participated in the Varsity Shield competition for the UKZN Impi, a university team, in 2014. He played in all eight regular-season matches for the side, helping them secure a second-place finish.
Following his successful Varsity Shield campaign, Wright was included in the Sharks XV squad for the 2014 Vodacom Cup competition. Shortly thereafter, due to various circumstances such as player departures, national team commitments, and injuries, he found himself as the starting scrum-half for the Sharks in the opening match of the 2014 Currie Cup Premier Division season.
In 2015, Wright embarked on a personal development journey by joining French Top 14 side Montpellier on loan. This experience abroad provided valuable opportunities for growth and learning. After spending two years in France, he returned to the Sharks ahead of the 2017 Currie Cup.
Wright's dedication and impressive performances caught the attention of the rugby community, and he made his Super Rugby debut for the Sharks in the opening game of the 2018 season against the Lions. His consistent performances for the Sharks led to his inclusion in the Springbok squad for the 2018 June Internationals, although he did not make his test debut during that time.
Despite not receiving a national team cap, Wright continued to shine whenever given the opportunity to play for the Sharks. In 2020, he briefly joined the Kings but did not make an appearance for the team due to an injury. He subsequently returned to the Sharks to continue his rugby journey with the franchise.
