Ben Spencer is an English rugby player who joined Bath Rugby in the summer of 2020 from Saracens. Known for his world-class skillset and leadership qualities, Spencer has consistently performed at a high level in both domestic and international competitions.
Spencer's career began at Saracens, where he was fast-tracked into the first-team squad after impressing the coaches during training in 2011. Despite initially planning to play for Cambridge, he ended up making his debut for Saracens that season and quickly established himself as a promising talent.
He continued to excel for Saracens, impressing in both the Premiership and the Heineken Cup. In 2012, he represented England Saxons and was part of England's Junior World Championship squad. Spencer's performances earned him a full-time contract with Saracens after a strong pre-season.
During his time at Saracens, Spencer played a key role in the team's success, helping them win two Aviva Premiership titles, two European Rugby Champions Cups, and an Anglo-Welsh Cup. He made over 150 appearances for the club and became a highly influential figure.
In 2018, Spencer received his first call-up to the England squad for their tour of South Africa. He continued to impress and was later called into the England squad as an injury replacement for the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final. Although coming off the bench, Spencer made his World Cup debut in the final against South Africa.
In July 2020, Spencer made the move to Bath Rugby. Despite the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued to showcase his exceptional skills and leadership abilities, making a significant impact in the Premiership and European competitions.
With his vast experience, which includes five Premiership titles and an Anglo-Welsh Cup, Spencer's presence and contributions are highly valued within the Bath squad. His speed of service and accuracy of kicking game have consistently stood out, making him a valuable asset for both club and country.
