Angelo Davids, born on 1 June 1999, is a South African rugby sevens player who represents the South Africa national rugby sevens team as a wing and back. He also plays for the DHL Stormers in URC and Western Province in the Currie Cup.
Davids began his rugby journey at Stellenberg High School in Bellville, where his talent caught the attention of Western Province. In 2017, he earned selection into Western Province's squad for the prestigious Craven Week competition, showcasing his skills and potential at a young age.
After completing school, Davids joined the South African Rugby Sevens Academy in 2018, embarking on his career in the fast-paced sevens format of the game. He represented the South African Academy side in various tournaments in 2018 and 2019, demonstrating his abilities on the sevens circuit. He was also initially selected for the senior South Africa sevens team at the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens, but unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.
Davids continued to make strides in his sevens career, earning a place in the Blitzboks squad for the 2019 Hong Kong Sevens. He made his debut in a 22–7 victory over Japan and went on to feature in all matches of the tournament. In the 2019 Singapore Sevens, he scored his first try in the opener against Scotland and added another try in the Cup final against Fiji. Davids' outstanding performance in the final earned him the title of Player of the Final, contributing to South Africa's 20–19 victory.
His success in sevens rugby extended to the international stage as well. In 2022, Davids was part of the South African team that clinched their second Commonwealth Games gold medal, showcasing his exceptional talent and contribution to the national team's success.
Alongside his sevens career, Davids also represents the DHL Stormers in URC and Western Province in the Currie Cup, demonstrating his versatility and skills in the 15-a-side format of the game. With his speed, agility, and try-scoring ability, Angelo Davids continues to make a significant impact in both sevens and fifteens rugby.
