Alessandro Troncon, born on September 6, 1973, in Treviso, is a former Italian rugby union player and current coach. He is considered a legend of Italian rugby and holds the distinction of being the first Italian player to earn 100 caps for his country.

Troncon made his debut for Italy in 1994 against Spain and went on to become a key player for the national team. He formed a formidable partnership with fly-half Diego Dominguez, with whom he played over 50 matches.

Troncon's international career spanned over thirteen years, during which he achieved remarkable success and became one of the most capped players in Italian rugby history.

During his playing career, Troncon represented several clubs, including Benetton Treviso, Mirano, and Clermont. He had two stints with Clermont, playing over 90 matches for the French side.

Troncon captained Italy at the 2003 Rugby World Cup but unfortunately suffered a serious knee injury shortly after the tournament, which sidelined him for the entire 2004 Six Nations Championship.

In 2007, Troncon was named Man of the Match in Italy's historic victory against Scotland in the Six Nations, and he also received the same accolade in a match against England. He reached a significant milestone when he won his 100th cap for Italy in a game against Portugal during the 2007 Rugby World Cup, becoming only the seventh player in history to achieve this feat.

Following his retirement from playing, Troncon transitioned into coaching. He initially served as the backline coach for Italy under head coach Nick Mallett in 2008.

He later took up coaching roles with Zebre and the Italian U20s team. In 2020, Troncon was appointed as the assistant coach for the Italian national team under Franco Smith. Since 2022, he has been working as an assistant coach for Benetton Rugby.

Throughout his career, Alessandro Troncon made significant contributions to Italian rugby both as a player and as a coach, leaving a lasting impact on the sport in his country.
