Whitelock made his debut for the Crusaders in 2009 against the Brumbies, after moving from the Manawatu to study accountancy at the University of Canterbury in 2006.
Prior to his Crusaders selection, he played for the Canterbury under-19s, Canterbury Colts and then made his debut for the Canterbury team in 2008.
A versatile back, able to play in the midfield or on the wing, Adam has so far scored seven tries for the franchise. While an injury cut short his 2011 Crusaders campaign was and prevented him from playing for Canterbury in the 2011 ITM Cup, he was back for both the Crusaders and Canterbury 2012 seasons and was a standout player in both campaigns.
Whitelock retired from professional rugby after three seasons with Bayonne in the TOP14 at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
