A versatile loose forward who can play across the back row, the back rower represented New Zealand U20s in the 2017 Junior World Championship and played for Auckland in the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup.
A highly-rated New Zealand U20s back rower, Choat arrived at Bristol Bears as injury cover until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
English qualified through a grandparent, he made the switch to the West Country in November. He spent a brief stint in the UK with Bristol Bears as injury cover before returning to Auckland in 2020, spending an extended period of time with the Blues as an injury replacement player without taking the field.
In 2021 Choat made his Super Rugby debut for the Blues against the Hurricanes in Wellington. He went on to make five appearances during the 2021 season, scoring his first try for the Blues against the Chiefs at Eden Park in Round 10 of Super Rugby Aotearoa.
In 2022, Choat played 15 matches for the Blues, making an astounding 120 tackles and an average gain of 1.9m per carry
