Tiatia has played and coached at Japan Top League side Toyota Verblitz as well as playing 99 games for the Ospreys.
He played two tests for New Zealand in 2000, and was the forward coach in the Sunwolves' debut season in 2016, having also been assistant coach of Ospreys in Wales and the Japan national team.
In September 2016, he became head coach of Japan's Sunwolves Super Rugby side.
The Wellington-born former back row has also worked in Super Rugby as Forwards Coach for Moana Pasifika and worked as Forwards Coach with Auckland Rugby.
In Feb 2025 he was announced as the head coach of Dragons RFC
