The 22-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Gallagher PREM rivals having previously played his BUCS Super Rugby for the University of Exeter.
Murray said: “Exeter has felt like a home away from home for me, having spent three years in the city studying at the university. So, when the opportunity came to join Exeter Chiefs, it was one I jumped at. They play a brand of rugby that really suits my game and matches the way I want to continue developing as a player.
“I’ve also got several good mates in the current squad, which made the decision even easier. After being in the crowd at Sandy Park myself, I’ve seen first-hand how passionate the fans are about the club so the chance to play in front of those supporters is something that really excites me.
“I hope to have a positive impact within the squad both on and off the pitch. It’s clear the group have done a great job this season domestically and in Europe, and I want to come in, contribute to that environment, and help push the club even further forward.
“Ultimately, the goal is to help bring silverware back to the city of Exeter and be part of a successful team that the fans can be proud of.”
While donning the green and white of EURFC, Murray made more than 10 appearances and scored five tries in a time when the Exeter men were crowned the BUCS Super Rugby league champions in March 2024.
Born in Kingston-upon-Thames, Murray attended nearby Whitgift School. Representing Rosslyn Park in his younger years, the scrum-half was a standout performer at U18s level for Quins before moving to Exeter to study a sports and exercise science degree while continuing with his rugby.
Having returned to London after graduation, Murray showed real promise while in the Harlequins player pathway. He was awarded his Prem debut against Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road during the 2024/25 season.
Chiefs’ director of rugby Rob Baxter said: “It’s an interesting situation with Jake as, when he was at the university, we looked at him a lot but at that time he was still part of the Harlequins academy.
“He had a number of good seasons playing for EURFC, so we saw a lot of what he could do playing alongside our academy boys. The opportunity has arisen now for us to bring him into the Chiefs fold, so we’ve taken it.
“We believe he’s got a lot of the attributes that’ll help us towards our goal of thickening out our squad to compete in all competitions concurrently. He’s a really talented player who we think can push forward with his rugby as he gains more experience and hopefully, with that, he’ll start to challenge the front-line players we have here.
“He’s another very good and exciting signing for us and one we think will really strengthen the group.”
