Disciplinary Verdict: Alex Matthews

Red Roses back row Alex Matthews was cited for an incident that occurred in the Premiership Women’s Rugby final between her club, Gloucester-Hartpury, and Saracens on Sunday 16 March 2025.
 
She received a yellow card in the match and was cited for dangerous tackling, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13. Her case was heard by an Independent Panel on Wednesday 19 March.

The player has received a three-match ban which will be reduced to two if she completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP)’.
 
Matthews will miss the following Guinness Women’s Six Nations games: 
23.03 v Italy 
29.03 v Wales
12.04 v Ireland (subject to completion of CIP)
