Santamaria established himself in the Celtic League in 2010, becoming team captain of Aironi Rugby team on several occasions.
At the end of his contract with the side in 2012, Santamaria was picked up by Doncaster Knights, receiving his first cap in the Championship by the end of that season.
After a few stints with Zebre Rugby in the PRO12, he found stable ground at Benetton Treviso in the 2015 season.
