O'Mahony made his Munster debut as a replacement against the Sale Sharks in the pre-season game in Musgrave Park in August '09. He made the move up to the academy at the start of the 10/11 season and after completing his three years secured a development contract for season 2013/14, joining his older brother Barry in the senior set-up.

Ronan made his RaboDirect PRO12 debut scoring a try against Newport Gwent Dragons in April 2013 and was one of three academy players nominated for the Academy Player of the Year in May 2013.

Signed a two-year deal in January 2015 that saw the winger move from development to full contact status at the start of the 2015/16 season.

O' Mahony signed a two-year contract extension in March 2017, and became the leading points scorer in the 2017 season for his province, crossing the whitewash 9 times in 20 games.

In April 2019, the winger who sustained a broken leg and dislocated ankle when playing against Treviso in April 2017 was advised to retire from professional rugby on medical grounds.

O’Mahony made 70 appearances for the province after making his debut against Dragons at Rodney Parade in April 2013. He went on to make his European debut against Saracens in January 2015. In scoring 21 tries he was the leading joint try-scorer for the 2016/17 season with 11 tries, crossing the whitewash in Munster’s historic win over the Maori All Blacks in Thomond Park.
