Perry has represented New Zealand at Secondary School, Under-19 and Heartland levels. Perry is the son of former All Black Grant Perry. Born in Ashburton, Perry went on to board at St Andrew's College in Christchurch. He played a handful of games for Mid Canterbury in 2010, before debuting for the Mako in 2012.

The former Crusaders’ Wider Training Group member returned to rugby in 2012 after a break and showed solid form and determination. Perry joined the Crusaders in 2014 after making his Super Rugby debut for the Blues the previous year.

Perry has been included in the Crusader 2017 Super Rugby squad having made 16 appearances in the competition already scoring 1 try. The 1.91m loosehead prop re-signed with the Crusaders through to 2019.

Perry was a consistent feature for Tasman during the Mitre 10 Cup season as they made their way into the Championship final. Following some fine form with Tasman, Perry was named in the All Blacks end of year touring squad. Perry got an All Blacks call up on the 2017 end-of-year-tour, but didn't earn his first test cap until the following year, when he debuted against the Wallabies in Sydney.

Heading into the 2019 season, Perry was very much in the All Black frame as they plotted towards the World Cup in Japan, but he broke his arm in the Crusaders' season opener and practically missed the entire Super campaign. He was fit again for the Mitre 10 Cup, helping Tasman go undefeated on their way to a maiden national provincial title.

In 2020, Perry's retirement went somewhat under the radar with the six test All Black as there was no release from New Zealand Rugby, silence from the Crusaders and Tasman, and not a whisper from the former All Black himself on social media - just how he would want it.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson only found out about his retirement when piecing his team together for the 2020 season.
