Wounded Munster to challenge rampant Connacht

The Sportsground will play host to the second Irish derby of the round as Munster will take the field and brace themselves for a fiery contest against a rampant Connacht outfit.

The men in green pulled off a fantastic and unexpected victory in the last round against reigning champions Leinster, 35-24 – a win which will have fuelled their confidence greatly going into this weekend’s clash. It was an impressive performance in which Connacht dictated the game in their favour while driving off the efforts of their foes.

Conversely, Munster found themselves outdone by Ulster last weekend, 15-10, in a gritty match-up which forced both sides to dig deep.

Like in Conference A, this derby also serves as a top-of-the-table clash. Munster occupy number 1 spot with seven victories from eight outings and a total of 33 points overall while Connacht currently sit in second spot with five victories behind their name after eight appearances and 25 points overall. While Munster do enjoy a comfortable cushion at present, Connacht’s most recent form suggests they are well in the hunt for top spot.

The last time the two sides met was in Round 15 of the 2019-20 instalment and Munster rolled their sleeves up and put Connacht to the sword in a 49-12 thrashing. The men in red will no doubt be drawing on the memory of that game as they take the pitch on Saturday evening, although they will have to know that a much tougher challenge lies in wait for them this time around.
