Ireland u20 made it two from three with a 38-14 win over Italy u20 in round 3 of the World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
For the opening 39 minutes it was all Ireland as they ran in four tries and added a penalty for a commanding 31-0 lead.
Italy hit back with a try on the stroke of halftime to head into the break trailing 31-7.
A penalty try for Italy early in the second half reduced the deficit to 17 points. Ireland responded with their fifth try to hold a 38-14 advantage heading into the final quarter of the match. Ireland needed points to have a chance at making the semi-finals but were kept out by some much better Italian defence in final 20 minutes.
The victory gives Ireland an outside chance at finishing as the best runner up in a pool to make the semi-finals, but they will have to have results go their way and hope for a superior points difference.
