World Rugby release a 16-man shortlist for fans' player of the decade

World Rugby has launched a vote to decide the fan's player of the decade with 16-man shortlist confirmed.

Jonathan Sexton is the only Irishman to make the cut with the All Blacks accounting for seven of the sixteen.

The bracket-style poll sees All Blacks' Dan Carter and Aaron Smith face off in the opening round with the former flyhalf more than likely to claim that one.

Sexton goes head to head with his British and Irish Lions' teammate and England captain Owen Farrell while Wallabies scrumhalf Will Genia battles it out with Beauden Barrett.

Two World Cup winners in Bryan Habana and Ma'a Nonu face off in the first round as well while Tendai Mtawarira has the near-impossible task of beating two-time World Cup-winning captain Richie McCaw to progress through the first round.

Italy legend Sergio Parisse goes head to head with another All Black in Brodie Retallick while Wales and British and Irish Lions' captain Alun-Wyn Jones is paired with Wallaby flanker David Pocock.

Finally, Jones is joined on the shortlist by his fellow Welshman Sam Warburton who is pitted against former All Black captain Kieran Read.

Using World Rugby's shortlist who would select as the player of the decade?
