World Cup winning Bok set for homecoming

World Cup-winning Springbok Francois Steyn is set to make an unprecedented move back to South Africa next season bringing an end to his stay in France. The former Sharks utility back left South Africa in 2009 to link up with Racing 92 before returning to South Africa in 2013 to rejoin the Sharks.

He would leave South Africa once again linking up with Japanese side Brave Lupus before he signed up with Montpellier joining fellow Springboks, Bismarck du Plessis, Ruan Pienaar and Jannie du Plessis.

The 31-year-old has recently bought a house in the Free State and is reportedly set to turn down a contract extension with Montpellier to sign a deal with the Cheetahs, according to South African newspaper the Rapport.

Steyn played youth representative rugby for the Cheetahs but signed a deal with the Sharks shortly after finishing school and would go on to star for the Durban side helping the side to the Super Rugby final in his first season with the franchise.

Steyn was the youngest member of the Springboks World Cup winning squad in 2007 and went on to be a key member of the squad following Jean de Villiers injury.

The Cheetahs could be further boosted ahead of next season by the signing of Charles Marais, who is set to rejoin the side from Japan.
